Liu Ourui is a painter who grew up in Shenyang and has been living in Beijing since 2017. His studio captures the visitor’s view firstly through two large format paintings of 4 by 6 meters and several others which are only slightly smaller. Courageous and curious in his attitude, Liu shies no surface for his painting. His works seem to capture a certain moment in art history or a personal memory of the artist which remains undefined in the complex storyline of his painting.

In a overwhelming assemblage of working material, finished and still in progress paintings, printed out reproductions and installation views and personal items, his studio makes it impossible to get an overview within the first hour of entering it. Only after assimilating oneself with the densely charged 450m2 close to Terminal 3 of Beijing Capital Airport one can get an idea of the powerful mindset of this 1985 born artist.
